Inside The Winter Nail Edit 2026: Five Curated Moods for the Cooler Month

Inside The Winter Nail Edit 2026: Five Curated Moods for the Cooler Month

The Winter Nail Edit is live.

We've curated this year's winter range into five distinct moods — each one designed for a different moment of the cooler season. One Edit is our always-here foundation. The other four are curated for this season — and over time, some of these shades will earn their place in our always-available core, while others won't return until next winter.

Here's what's inside, what each Edit is for, and how to build your winter mani wardrobe across them.

A quick note on what's seasonal vs always available

Before we dive in — a small map.

- The Velvet Nights Edit is our year-round core. These twelve shades have earned their place — they're here all year because they're the ones you reach for again and again.
- The Winter Muse, Midnight Frost, After Dark and Winter Layers Edits are curated for this winter. Some of these shades will graduate into our always-available core if they become customer favourites. Others will rotate out at the end of the season and return next winter.

If a shade is calling your name, it's worth grabbing — we don't always know which way it'll go.

The Winter Muse Edit

Soft neutrals and understated tones, made for effortless styling.

This is the Edit for the days you want polished without effort. Warm milky neutrals, dusty pinks, soft plums — the kind of shades that go with everything in your winter wardrobe without competing for attention.

It's the "elevated everyday" tier of the Winter range. Quiet, refined, and the kind of mani that gets compliments from people who can't quite put their finger on what's different about you today.

What's in the Edit:

- Berry Mixed — soft layered berry undertones
- Dusty Plum — gentle, dusty, sophisticated
- French White — the eternal classic, here for the cooler months
- Mauve Gold Dip — dusty mauve with a hint of gold warmth
- Moon Child — dreamy, pearly, cool-toned
- Peach Sunday — warm transition neutral

Perfect for: the office, school runs, dinners with the in-laws, that one girlfriend who notices everything. Anyone who wants their nails to feel finished without feeling done.

The Midnight Frost Edit

Cool shimmer and icy finishes inspired by crisp winter nights.

The cool-toned, shimmery Edit. Volcanic, frosted, sparkling — these are the shades for the months when the air bites a little and you want your nails to catch every bit of light that's available.

If Winter Muse is your "quiet refined" register, Midnight Frost is your "I want a bit of magic in my mani" register.

What's in the Edit:

- Crimson Sparkle — warm red with a hit of shimmer
- Deep Sea Cats Eye — magnetic, moody, oceanic depth
- Opal Freeze — pearlescent, almost iridescent
- Sangria — rich plum-wine with shimmer
- Sprinkle Glow Snow — soft sparkle, lighter base
- Volcanic Speckle — moody base with subtle scattered shimmer

Perfect for: end-of-year parties, dinner dates, weekend brunches, anytime you want a little glow without going full sequin. The kind of mani that photographs beautifully under any light.

The After Dark Edit

Bold winter shades for nights that call for something a little extra.

This is the Edit for the days you want your nails to *say something*. Deep jewel tones, oceanic blues, midnight greens — the colours that look incredible against a silk blouse, a chunky knit, or a glass of red.

It's the smallest Edit (5 shades) but the most considered. Each one earns its place.

What's in the Edit:

- Amethyst Eclipse — deep purple with subtle aurora shift
- Cobalt Blue — a true, glossy, statement blue
- Forest Green — rich, slightly mysterious, gets compliments every time
- Jade Eclipse — emerald-toned green with depth
- Sapphire Eclipse — deep ocean blue with shimmer

Perfect for: date nights, work events where you want to feel powerful, evenings that started as "casual dinner" and ended somewhere else entirely.

The Winter Layers Edit (UV-Free)

Rich, grounded tones inspired by winter layering.

This Edit lives in our UV-Free range — fully cured, lamp-free, peel-and-press. Same gel quality, faster routine. Made for the days when you want a fresh set in 10 minutes flat.

The palette mirrors what you're already wearing this winter — burnt umber, charcoal, moss, eggplant, bottle green, royal blue. Earthy, layered, grounded.

What's in the Edit:

- Burnt Umber — deep mahogany-oxblood
- Charcoal — the cool-girl alternative to black
- Moss — earthy, grounded, surprisingly versatile
- Eggplant — regal, jewel-toned
- Bottle Green — a vintage classic
- Royal Blue — a wardrobe-staple deeper register

Perfect for: anyone new to gel wraps, frequent travellers (no lamp to pack), busy weeks when you want salon-quality without the time investment.

The Velvet Nights Edit

Your always-available winter classics

Now to the foundation.

The Velvet Nights Edit isn't a seasonal drop — these are the twelve shades we keep stocked all year because they're the ones you reach for again and again. All in our Semi-Cured range, all $19.95.

If the four seasonal Edits above are this season's curated discovery, Velvet Nights is the wardrobe of winter shades you can always come back to. (Many of these earned their permanent spot by being seasonal favourites — and any shade in the seasonal Edits above could be next.)

What's in the Edit:

Cherry Red, Classic Burgundy, Cosmic Chic, Lavender Whip, Mulberry, Navy Pool, Night Black, Olive, Opal Glitter, Purple Cats Eye, Secret Garden, Violet Luster.

A red for the days you want a red. A black for the days you want a black. A green that's grown-up. A plum that goes with everything. The kind of range that makes building a "nail wardrobe" actually possible.

How to build your winter mani wardrobe

If you're not sure where to start, here's how we'd play it:

- Pick one Velvet Nights classic as your reliable go-to (Mulberry and Classic Burgundy are perennial winter favourites)
- Add one seasonal shade that excites you — go bold with After Dark, soft with Winter Muse, shimmery with Midnight Frost, or earthy with Winter Layers
- Rotate. A fortnight in one. Fresh set in the other. Repeat.

Two sets covers about a month of fresh manis. Three covers six weeks. The seasonal shades only come around once a year, so grabbing a couple to layer in alongside your Velvet Nights staple is genuinely the move.

The Winter Nail Edit FAQs

How long are the seasonal Edits available?

The four seasonal Edits — Winter Muse, Midnight Frost, After Dark and Winter Layers — are curated for the cooler months.

Once winter wraps up (usually around early September in Australia), each shade goes one of two ways: it either graduates into our always-available core, or it rotates out and returns next winter.

We don't always know which will be which — that's partly decided by which shades you love most. If something is calling your name, it's safest to grab it now.

The Velvet Nights Edit is always available year-round.

What's the difference between Velvet Nights and the seasonal Edits?

Velvet Nights is our always-stocked core — 12 winter classics that earn their place every year.

The other four Edits are curated seasonal drops — fresh shades and finishes designed for this specific winter, available for a limited time.

Think of Velvet Nights as your wardrobe staples. The seasonal Edits are the runway pieces that come and go.

Can I mix shades across different Edits?

Absolutely — and we'd recommend it.

A common combination:
- One Velvet Nights classic (your reliable go-to)
- One seasonal shade (your "for now" mood)

Rotate between them across the season. Two fresh sets cover about a month. Three cover six weeks.

Which Edit is best for beginners?

If you're brand new to gel wraps, the easiest entry points are:

- The Winter Layers Edit (UV-Free) — no lamp needed, 10-minute application, peel and press
- The Winter Muse Edit — soft neutrals that are forgiving with imperfect application

Either is a beautiful place to start.

Do I need a UV lamp for these shades?

For four of the five Edits — yes:

- Velvet Nights, Winter Muse, Midnight Frost, and After Dark are all Semi-Cured wraps that need a UV LED lamp.

For The Winter Layers Edit (UV-Free) — no lamp required. They're fully cured during manufacture.

If you don't have a UV lamp yet, our [Semi-Cured Starter Kits](https://la-bek.com.au/starter-kit/) include everything you need in one box.

How long do they last?

- Semi-Cured wraps (most of the Winter Edit): up to 2+ weeks
- UV-Free wraps (Winter Layers Edit): 7–10 days

For tips on getting the longest wear from any set, our Why Are My Gel Nail Wraps Lifting? 7 Quick Fixes post covers everything.

Will the new seasonal shades come back next year?

Some will graduate into our always-available core (so they're with us all year). Others will return next winter. A small handful may retire altogether if they don't find their audience.

Customer favourites genuinely shape this — the shades you love most are the ones most likely to earn permanent status.

If a specific shade has captured you, this is your best window to grab it.

What about the Autumn Edit shades I love — are they still available?

Once a seasonal Edit ends, most shades come off the site once sold out. A handful of all-time bestsellers move into the always-available core (which is how the Velvet Nights Edit grows year by year).

The best way to keep favourites available across seasons is to grab a set or two while they're live — or join our newsletter to hear before each seasonal Edit changes over.

Are the new shades vegan and cruelty-free?

Yes — every shade in every LA-BEK Edit is vegan and cruelty-free, across both Semi-Cured and UV-Free ranges.
