Semi-Cured Gel Nails: Dos and Don'ts for a Flawless Finish
A few small habits make the difference between a semi-cured set that lasts the full two weeks and one that starts lifting after a few days. Here's what to do, and what to avoid.
Do
- Clean and prep your nails first. Any oil or residue left on the nail stops the wrap adhering properly, so start with a clean, dry surface.
- Choose a strip slightly smaller than your nail bed. You can gently stretch a smaller strip to fit, but a strip that's too large and touches your skin won't seal properly.
- Cure under a UV or LED lamp for the full recommended time. Cutting the cure short is one of the most common reasons wraps feel soft or lift early.
- Press and seal the edges firmly. This is what stops water and everyday knocks getting underneath the wrap.
Don't
- Rush the application. Uneven placement is much easier to avoid the first time than to fix afterwards.
- Skip cuticle prep. A clean, pushed-back cuticle line gives the wrap a proper base to sit on.
- Peel the wraps off to remove them. Use cuticle oil and gently lift instead, peeling can take layers of your natural nail with it.
