Semi-Cured Gel Nails vs Traditional Salon Gel
Semi-cured gel wraps and a traditional salon gel manicure both give you a glossy, long-wearing finish, but the process behind each one is quite different, especially when it comes to your natural nails.
Application
A salon gel manicure usually involves buffing the nail surface, applying a base coat, two or three layers of colour, and a top coat, each cured separately under a lamp. Semi-cured wraps skip most of that: the gel colour is already formed into a strip, so you're really just positioning it, sealing the edges, and curing once under a UV/LED lamp for about 60 to 120 seconds.
Removal
This is where the biggest difference shows up. Salon gel is typically removed by soaking in acetone, which can leave nails feeling dry and thin, especially with repeat visits. Semi-cured wraps are removed with oil: lift the edge, apply cuticle oil, and ease the wrap off gently. No soaking required.
Wear and cost
With proper application, semi-cured wraps last up to two weeks, similar to salon gel, but at a fraction of the cost per set and without needing to book an appointment or sit in a chair for an hour.
