Which La-Bek Starter Kit Is Right for You?

Which La-Bek Starter Kit Is Right for You?

So you've decided to ditch the salon and bring salon-quality nails home. Smart move. The trickier bit? Working out where to actually start.

Because there's no one-size-fits-all mani. Your hands are different. Your schedule is different. Your idea of "ideal nails" might be totally different to your mate's.

That's exactly why we built three ways in.

Transparent Dream Grow Out Starter Kit by La-Bek, product shot

The Three Paths to Beautiful Nails

1. Pre-Curated Starter Kits (Semi-Cured)

These are for people who want us to do the thinking.

We've paired complementary colours together so they work straight out of the box. Pretty in Pink brings two wearable pinks that mix soft femininity with everyday strength. Transparent Dream gives you "nails but better" โ€” your natural nail showing through with perfect precision. Glitter Queen? Two ways to sparkle, because sometimes you want to shine.

Each comes in two depths:

Basic kit:ย  two colour pairs, essentials to get started, perfect for testing the waters. Wear time is 2+ weeks.

Grow Out kit: all the same colours, plus everything you need to manage the grow-out phase beautifully (because real nails grow, and we've got solutions for that). Same 2+ weeks of longevity.

Both require a UV lamp and real liquid gel: that's what gives you the strength and longevity that keeps your nails protected while they grow.

Best for: Newcomers who like a clear recommendation. People who want "done for me" colour matching. Anyone who loves a predictable routine.

Blush Love Essentials Starter Kit by La-Bek, product shot

2. UV-Free Essentials Kits

These are for people who want fast, flexible, and zero fuss.

No lamp. No curing. Just press, smooth, and you're done. Wear time is 7โ€“10 days, so they're perfect for travel, event dressing, or when you want to switch up your look without commitment.

We've curated two: Blush Love (soft pinks that work with everything) and Coastal Crush (that holiday energy in two shades). Both fully cured in manufacturing, no setup needed.

Best for: People on the move. Teens. Anyone with sensory overwhelm around UV lamps or salon smells. The "quick mani" crowd. People who like to match their nails to their outfit or mood.

Important: UV-free and semi-cured aren't competitors, they're two handbags. Different bag for different occasions.

3. Build Your Own Kit

This is for people who know what they want, or want to discover what works for them.

Mix any colours, any top coats, any tools. You pick the combo. You save big: 25% off 4โ€“5 items, 30% off 6+ items.

Perfect for existing customers finally bundling that top coat you've been eyeing with colours you already know you love. Perfect for new customers who've done their homework and know exactly what speaks to them.

Best for: Decision-makers. People who've done their research. Existing customers building the bundle they've always wanted. Anyone who'd rather curate than be curated for.

How to Pick

Are you new to gel nails and want guidance? Go pre-curated. We've done the pairing work so nothing clashes and everything complements.

Do you travel, switch looks often, or want minimal setup? UV-free Essentials is your answer.

Do you already know your colours, or want to mix and match to your exact vibe? Build your own and save.

Can't decide between semi-cured and UV-free? Think about wear time and setup. Semi-cured lasts 2+ weeks but needs a lamp and 60 seconds under it (real longevity, real strength). UV-free lasts 7โ€“10 days, needs no lamp, no curing, you're done in 30 seconds. Both are brilliant. Different moments, same quality.

What's Actually in Each Kit?

Semi-Cured Starter Kits Two colour pairs (4 sets total, 20 strips per set โ€” that's 80 strips). Top coat. Essentials to get started (removal oil, cuticle care, or application guide depending on the kit). Everything you need except the UV lamp.

UV-Free Essentials Kits Two colour pairs (2 sets, 20 strips per set). Everything ready to wear, no lamp needed.

Build Your Own You choose. Pick from any semi-cured colours, top coats, tools, and accessories. We show you the savings as you build it.

The Beginner-Friendly Truth

Whichever kit you pick, you're in good hands.

Sizing? Stretchable and trimmable. Application? Beginner-proof (we've built guides into every pack). Removal? Always oil, never peel. Wear time? 2+ weeks semi-cured, 7โ€“10 days UV-free. Real nail damage? Zero โ€” gel wraps protect your nails while they grow.

The only thing that matters is picking the kit that fits your life, not the Instagram version of it.

FAQ

What's the difference between Basic and Grow Out kits?

Basic kits are for testing the waters and everyday wear. You get two colour pairs and essentials, enough to start your gel journey with confidence.

Grow Out kits are built for people managing the grow-out phase beautifully. You get the same two colours as the Basic, plus additional tools and guides to handle that gorgeous natural nail line as your real nails grow underneath. If you plan to wear gel regularly and want to look polished throughout the grow-out, Grow Out is your kit.

ย

What's the difference between semi-cured and UV-free?

Semi-cured is real liquid gel that's 60% cured before you get it. It requires a UV lamp (about 60 seconds under the lamp per manicure) and lasts 2+ weeks. The longevity comes from that real gel formula โ€” it's brilliant for nail strength and growth support.

UV-free is fully cured in manufacturing. No lamp, no curing, no setup. You press and smooth โ€” done in 30 seconds. Wear time is 7โ€“10 days, making it ideal for travel, events, or when you want to switch looks without commitment.

Neither is "better." They're designed for different moments in your life.

ย

โธป

Do I need tools? Are they included in the kits?

You don'tย need tools to apply gel wraps โ€” your fingers work fine. But we include essentials in every kit (removal oil, cuticle care, or application guide). If you want to level up your application game, tools like our glass nail file or precision tweezers make a real difference. Build Your Own kits let you add them in and save 30% on the full bundle.

ย

โธป

How do I know what size to pick?

Each pack has 20 strips in multiple sizes (XS through L). They're stretchable and trimmable, so you can customise the fit for each nail. Start with a size close to your natural nail โ€” if it's slightly too big, you can trim it. If it's too small, the stretch usually handles it.

ย

โธป

Can I really build my own kit? What if I mess it up?

You absolutely can. And you won't mess it up because we've built in the guidance. Pick colours you love, add a top coat if you want extra longevity, grab a tool if you'd like one. The savings come automatically โ€” 25% off 4โ€“5 items, 30% off 6+. You can't go wrong because there's no "wrong" โ€” only what works for you.

ย

โธป

How much do I save with Build Your Own?

25% off when you bundle 4โ€“5 items. 30% off when you bundle 6+. So if you were thinking about picking up a colour you've been eyeing plus that top coat, Build Your Own turns it into a smarter spend.

โธป

What if I'm not sure between semi-cured and UV-free?

Pick based on your life right now. Commuting daily and want nails that last? Semi-cured. Travelling, switching looks often, or want zero setup? UV-free. If you can't decide, start with UV-free for the ease, then try semi-cured later. You don't have to pick one forever โ€” real life isn't one thing.

โธป

ย

Do the kits come with a UV lamp?

No โ€” semi-cured kits need a lamp but don't include one (they range from $20โ€“$60, or you might already have one). UV-free kits need nothing; no lamp at all.

โธป

What happens if a colour doesn't work for me?

That's what our 100% Happiness Guarantee is for. Get in touch and we'll sort it. No returns required โ€” just let us know and we'll make it right.

โธป

Can I use Build Your Own to stock up on my favourite colours?

Absolutely. If you've found your signature colour, bundle multiples and save 30%. Repeat customers do this all the time.

Black Cat Energy: A Halloween Nail Art Look You Can Do at Home

Halloween nails don't have to mean orange and glitter. This one's a bold, glossy red with a black cat perched on almost every nail, cute rather than creepy, and genuinely one of the easiest looks in this series to pull off. This is the fourth post in our Nail Art Tutorials series, the looks we actually wear, broken down step-by-step so you can recreate them at home. Catch up on Violet Moonlight, Night Black and Gold Strip Nail Art and Quiet Luxe if you missed them. Let's get into it. The look at a glance Base: Lipstick Love Semi-Cured Gel Nails, a saturated hot pink-red jelly with serious colour payoff Accent: Black Cats Nail Art Decals, over 50 black cat designs on one sheet, mix and match Finish: Gloss Top Coat, seals everything in and gives that glassy, wet-look shine Time: Around 10 minutes on top of your standard application Skill level: Beginner-friendly, no freehand, no brushes, just tweezers and a steady hand You don't need a cat on every nail. Leave one or two plain and glossy for contrast, that's part of what makes the look feel playful rather than busy. ย  What you'll need Lipstick Love Semi-Cured Gel Nails Black Cats Nail Art Decals Precision Tweezers: for clean, controlled decal placement Gloss Top Coat: to seal and protect the finish UV LED lamp: to cure your gel wraps and top coat Cuticle oil and a wooden cuticle stick/tweezers for prep ย  ย  Step-by-step: how to create the Black Cat Energy look Step 1: Prep your nails Start with clean, oil-free nails: Push back your cuticles (our full guide if you need a refresher) Wipe each nail with a prep pad or rubbing alcohol File and shape if needed Good prep is what turns a 5-day mani into a 2-week one. Don't rush this bit. ย  Step 2: Apply your Lipstick Love wraps and cure Apply your Lipstick Love Semi-Cured Gel Nails as normal: Match each wrap to the size of your nail Press firmly from cuticle to tip Smooth out any air bubbles File away the excess at the tips Cure fully under your UV LED lamp If you're new to semi-cured application, our Semi-Cured Gel Nails How To tutorial walks through the whole process. ย  Step 3: Choose your cats The Black Cats sheet has over 50 designs, cats playing with yarn, sitting cats, peeking cats, all sorts. Pick out a handful of your favourites before you start placing them, it's easier than choosing on the fly. Decide how many nails you want a cat on. We left one or two nails plain and glossy, and gave the rest a different cat each, mixing up the poses so no two nails match exactly. ย  Step 4: Place your decals Using your Precision Tweezers, gently lift a cat decal from the sheet and position it wherever feels right on the nail, centred, off to one side, whatever suits that particular design. Press it flat with an orange stick or the flat edge of your tweezers, working from the centre outward to smooth out any air. Trim the excess at the edges with small nail scissors. Repeat across both hands, mixing up the cat designs as you go. ย  Step 5: Seal with Gloss Top Coat Apply a thin layer of Gloss Top Coat over every nail, making sure you go all the way over the decals. Press the brush flat against the nail and sweep from cuticle to tip in one smooth pass. ย  Step 6: Final cure and enjoy Cure under your UV LED lamp as directed on the top coat. A little cuticle oil around the edges to finish, and your Black Cat Energy set is done. ย  Why this look works Lipstick Love does the heavy lifting. It's a bold, saturated red-pink that reads as dramatic on its own, so the nail art on top doesn't need to be complicated to make an impact. One decal sheet, endless variation. With over 50 cat designs on one sheet, no two sets ever look quite the same, and you don't need to plan out a pattern in advance. Leaving nails plain is part of the design. Cute rather than creepy comes from restraint, a cat on every nail would be a lot. A cat on six or seven, with the rest left glossy, reads as playful instead of overloaded. ย  Quick recap Apply Lipstick Love wraps as normal and cure fully Pick a handful of favourite cat designs from the sheet Decide which nails get a cat and which stay plain Place decals with Precision Tweezers, mixing up the poses Press flat, trim the excess and repeat across both hands Seal with Gloss Top Coat over every nail, including the decals Final cure and enjoy Around 10 minutes on top of your standard application. Lasts 2+ weeks. Genuinely one of the easiest looks in this series. Shop this look Lipstick Love Semi-Cured Gel Nails Black Cats Nail Art Decals Precision Tweezers Gloss Top Coat Or browse the full Semi-Cured range and Nail Art range for more colours and decal styles to mix and match. Laura + Bek ย  Black Cat Energy Nail Art FAQs How long does this look take to do? Around 10 minutes on top of your standard application. If it's your first time working with decals, give yourself closer to 15โ€“20 minutes so you're not rushing the placement. โธป Do I need to put a cat on every nail? Not at all. Leaving one or two nails plain and glossy is part of what makes the look feel playful rather than busy. Anywhere from three to seven cats across both hands works well. โธป Can I use the Black Cats decals on UV-Free wraps instead of Semi-Cured? Yes, the decals work on our UV-Free wraps too. Keep in mind UV-Free wears for 7โ€“10 days rather than 2+ weeks, so the overall wear time will be shorter, but the application process is much the same. โธป Do I need to plan out which cat goes where? No. Part of the fun is picking a handful of favourites and placing them as you go. No two sets need to look the same. โธป Will the cat decals stay put through normal wear? Yes, sealing them under a thin layer of Gloss Top Coat and curing under your UV lamp locks them in for the full life of the set, typically 2+ weeks with proper prep. The top coat step is the one to never skip. โธป Can I use a different base colour instead of Lipstick Love? Absolutely. Black Cats decals will pop against any base, orange, black or a soft neutral would all work if red's not your colour for Halloween. Lipstick Love is just our pick for this look. โธป Will this look damage my nails? No, LA-BEK Semi-Cured Gel Nails and our nail art decals are gentle on your natural nails when applied and removed properly. For the gentlest removal, head to our step-by-step removal guide: cuticle oil, patience, and no peeling. Can You Wear Semi-Cured Gel Wraps on Your Toes?

ย  Short answer: yes, and honestly, toes might be the easier win. We get this one a lot, people assume our wraps are a fingers-only thing and either skip the idea of a home pedicure altogether or reach for regular polish instead. Neither's necessary. We've got a full toe-specific range, and once you've done a set, you'll probably wonder why you didn't start there. Are toe wraps actually different from the finger ones? Yes, genuinely. They're not just finger wraps cut down to size. Our toe wraps are cut and sized specifically for toenails from the start, wider and shaped for edge-to-edge coverage on a nail that's a different proportion to your fingers. Same real gel, same 60% cure straight out of the pack, just built for the right nail. How they work Exactly the same process as our regular wraps: peel, press, file to shape, then cure for 60 seconds under any UV or LED lamp. The gel sets hard and you're looking at 2+ weeks of wear, same as your hands. Don't have toe wraps on hand? Use your finger leftovers You don't strictly need the toe-specific range to get started either. Every pack of our regular finger wraps comes with multiple sizes, and toenails are almost always smaller than fingernails, so the smallest strips left over after doing your hands are often a perfect fit for toes. It's a handy way to match fingers and toes exactly using what you've already got, no separate pack required. That said, if you want proper edge-to-edge coverage on every toe (especially bigger toes), the dedicated toe range is cut for that from the start. The bit that surprises people: toes often last longer Toenails tend to give even longer wear than fingernails, simply because they take less daily punishment. No typing, no constant hand-washing, no catching on zippers. A set applied before a holiday will comfortably see you through the whole trip. ย  ย  Getting them to last A few things make a real difference: Clean, dry, oil-free nails before you start. Same rule as fingers, oil is the enemy of adhesion. Press the edges down firmly with Precision Tweezers, especially around the big toe, the curve there is the steepest on your whole foot and the spot most likely to lift first. File downward, not back and forth, once you've trimmed to shape. Sawing back and forth is what causes splitting. Add a top coat from our Top Coats range if you want extra shine and a bit more longevity on top. ย  Choosing a shade The toe range covers the classics: soft pinks, crisp whites, French tips, reds and black, plus a few with more sparkle. Quite a few match shades in our main wrap range too, so you can run fingers and toes in the same colour, or deliberately mismatch if that's more your thing. A few to start with: Pure White Toes for that crisp, sharp-in-sandals classic. Classic French Toes if you want the timeless salon pedicure look. Baby Pink Toes or Rose Garden Toes for something softer. Red Robin Toes for the classic bold red, and Candy Bar Toes if you'd rather wear five colours than pick one. Shop the Toe Wraps Range The short version Yes, you can wear semi-cured gel wraps on your toes, they're actually built for it, they last just as long (often longer), and the range covers pretty much every mood. If you've been doing fingers for a while and haven't tried toes yet, this is your sign. Laura + Bek Toe Wrap FAQs Can I really use semi-cured gel wraps on my toenails? Yes. We have a dedicated range cut and sized specifically for toenails, not finger wraps repurposed. Same real gel, same application, same UV/LED curing step. โธป Do toe wraps need a UV lamp too? Yes, same as our finger wraps. 60 seconds under any UV or LED lamp is what cures them to full strength. โธป Do toe wraps last as long as finger wraps? At least as long, often longer. Toenails take less daily punishment than fingers, so a set can comfortably outlast the 2+ weeks you'd expect from your hands. โธป Do I need to buy separate toe wraps, or can I just use my finger ones? You can use leftovers from a regular pack, since toenails are usually smaller, the smallest strips left after doing your fingers often fit toes well. For the best edge-to-edge coverage on every toe, though, the dedicated toe range is cut and shaped for that specifically. โธป What's the trick to getting them to last on toes specifically? Clean, dry, oil-free nails to start, then press the edges down firmly with Precision Tweezers, especially around the big toe where the curve is steepest. File downward rather than back and forth once you've trimmed to shape. โธป Can I match my toe colour to my finger colour? Yes, quite a few shades appear in both ranges. Match them for a coordinated look, or pick something different for each, entirely up to you. Pinterest Spring Nails 2026: The Looks Everyone's Saving

If your Pinterest feed looks anything like ours, it's currently a mix of polka dots, jade greens and soft, petal-coloured everything, and you've probably already saved a few. Spring 2026 nails are leaning playful again after a quiet winter. More colour, more pattern, a little more fun with mixing things up. The looks getting saved right now aren't one single trend either, it's a real spread, so we've pulled out the six we're seeing everywhere and the LA-BEK shades that get you there at home. ย  ย  1. Polka Dots, Everywhere Polka dots are having a genuine moment on Pinterest this season, searches for the look are up well over 2,000%. Not the bold, retro kind either, it's softer than that: fine dots scattered over a sheer or pale base, almost like confetti. It's a surprisingly easy trend to wear, and we've genuinely got a polka dot lineup for it. Pink Drop is the classic take, fine silver foil dots scattered over a pale blush-pink base. Prefer no lamp? Cream Drop gives you the same retro polka dot look in our UV-Free range, peel and press, no curing required. For something a little more modern, Polka Dot Tide fades from soft grey to dusty lilac with dots scattered right through it, and Pink Speckle gives you that same scattered, flecked finish in a warmer pink. Shop Polka Dot Nail Wraps ย  ย  2. Jade Greens and Botanical Tones Green is back in a big way. Pinterest's seeing jade marble nails spike over 400%, and there's a broader "get me outside" mood driving searches for leafy, botanical shades. This is a genuinely strong section of our range. Secret Garden is the statement pick, glittering botanical illustrations across a deep black base. For something quieter, Olive is a muted, grown-up green that works for everyday wear, and Pistachio goes paler and softer again. Prefer no lamp? Sea Foam Green brings the same fresh green tone to our UV-Free range. Shop Green Nail Wraps ย  ย  3. Soft Petal Pastels Alongside all the colour and pattern, there's a quieter trend running underneath it: soft, feminine pastels. Think petal pink and warm cream rather than anything candy-bright, the kind of shade that reads polished rather than sweet. Soft Pink is our most-loved everyday version of this, an ultra-sheer, barely-there blush. Pink Pearl adds a fine shimmer for a bit more polish, and Peach Sunday brings in a warmer, sheer peach if pink's not quite your shade. Strawberry Milkshake is the slightly deeper, creamier option if you want a touch more colour. Shop Soft Pink Nail Wraps ย  ย  4. Balletcore: Ballet Slipper Nails This is the trend with its own name, and it's a big one. Balletcore's back, a little grittier than the tulle-and-cardigans version from a few years ago, but the nails have gone softer than ever: Pinterest's seeing record saves on nude, ballet-slipper pink right now, sometimes with a bow or ribbon worked in. Three ways we'd wear it. Ballet Ribbons is the easiest way in, a soft mauve-taupe with a rose-gold shimmer nail running through the set, finished with a fine hand-drawn bow. Ballet Blush keeps it plain and glossy if you want the trend without any shimmer or pattern at all (this one's currently out of stock on our end, so hold off linking it until it's back). And for the dressier version, Sparkling French Rosรฉ with a Mini Bows Nail Art Decal pressed above the smile line gives you the French-tip-plus-bow look that's all over Pinterest right now. Shop Ballet Blush Shades ย  5. Cool Blue Carries Into Spring Winter's biggest colour isn't going anywhere. Pinterest's calling cool blue the shade that "transcends seasons" in 2026, and it's easy to see why, it works just as well against spring's brighter palette as it did against knits and coats. Navy Pool is the deep, glossy option if you want real depth. Azure Tide is the standout for spring specifically, a blue and pink marble laced with gold, it's genuinely one of the prettiest ways to wear this trend (it's a newer shade and stock is limited, so don't wait too long if it catches your eye). Want it softer? Periwinkle sits right between blue and lilac, all the coolness of blue without going full navy. If you'd rather skip the lamp, Sea Glass gives you a softer, shimmery aqua blue. Shop Blue Nail Wraps ย  ย  6. Mismatched Manis This is the trend that ties everything else together. Pinterest's seeing a real rise in searches for "nails with different colours on each hand", nobody's matching every finger anymore, and honestly, we've been saying this for a while: our Edits are designed to mix. Try a green from Matcha Mornings on one hand and a pink from Picnic Club on the other, Pistachio and Pink Lemonade is a lovely pairing if you want to try it (Pink Lemonade's buttery yellow undertone is a nice nod to the soft yellows showing up on Pinterest too). Or go bolder and pair a Matcha Mornings shade with something from Azure Escape. There's no wrong combination, that's really the whole point of the trend. If you want the full lineup to mix and match from, we pulled our whole spring range together in Inside The Spring Edit 2026. The biggest shift this spring? It's all about mixing. If there's one thread running through everything above, it's this: spring 2026 isn't about picking one trend and committing. It's dots on one set, greens the next, a floral sticker pressed over whatever you're already wearing. That's also what makes this season easy to recreate at home, nothing here needs to be perfect or matched. ย  Ready to shop the trends? Everything above is drawn from our current Spring Edit, browse the full collection to see how each mood works together, or explore our complete gel nail wrap range across every colour and finish. Laura + Bek ย  Pinterest Spring Nails FAQs Are these actual Pinterest trends, or just what LA-BEK likes right now? These six are drawn from Pinterest's own 2026 trend data and search growth, polka dots, jade greens, soft pastels, balletcore, cool blue and mismatched manis are all genuinely trending on the platform right now. We've matched them to shades from our current range rather than the other way around. โธป Do I need a UV lamp to recreate these looks? Depends which shade. Most of the wraps above are Semi-Cured, which need a UV lamp and wear 2+ weeks. Sea Foam Green and Sea Glass are UV-Free, no lamp, peel and press, wearing 7 to 10 days. The Spring Details stickers press onto either, no lamp required for the sticker itself. โธป Can I really mix shades from different moods on the same set, or even different hands? Yes, and it's genuinely one of this season's biggest trends. There's no rule that says a full set has to come from one mood or one Edit. Mixing is the point. โธป How long will these shades be around? They're part of our current Spring Edit, so they're seasonal. Some may earn a permanent spot in our everyday range once spring wraps up, others will retire or return next year. If a shade in this post has caught your eye, it's worth grabbing sooner rather than later. โธป How do I remove them without damaging my natural nails? Always use oil, never peel. Peeling can take layers of your natural nail off with it, which works against everything you're trying to do by wearing wraps in the first place. Written by Laura & Bek Founders of LA-BEK, an Australian brand creating semi-cured gel nail wraps and UV-free gel nail wraps designed to make salon-quality nails simple, at home.

Short natural nails, the starting point in Ellie's five week nail story

A real customer email, lightly edited for length. Name changed and no photos included, at her request. ย  Every so often an email lands in our inbox that stops us in our tracks. This one did. It's from a customer we're calling Ellie, and it's about hands, habits, and giving yourself permission to feel proud of something so small. Ellie picked her nails her whole life. "Down to the wick" is how she put it. She'd tried everything to stop and nothing had stuck. Then two mates who already wore la-bek put wraps on her thumbnails during a weekend away in May, half as a joke, half as an intervention. They lasted less than 24 hours. But something about seeing polish on her nails, even briefly, was enough. She let her real nails grow for two weeks before trying wraps on her own for the first time. The messy middle Her first set was Transparent Pink. She wasn't sold. Her real nails were still visible underneath, and because she didn't want to file the wraps right down, she ended up with fluff trapped underneath and not much surface area for them to hold onto. They lifted. They fell off. She'd already watched our video on applying wraps to short nails, so none of it surprised her, and crucially, having something on her nails at all was enough to stop her picking. A week later she switched to Olive. A darker colour hid what was underneath and disguised the fluff. Still some lifting, still the odd wrap falling off, but by now she was cutting most of them in half to make a pack stretch further, and slowly learning the technique of filing and shaping nails she'd genuinely never had before. Her third set, Lavender Whip with a few Secret Garden accents, lasted properly. That's when it clicked, both the application and, unexpectedly, the fun of it. She never thought of herself as a nail art person. Turns out pretty colours and a bit of pattern give her, in her words, "much needed daily dopamine hits." Five weeks in By week five, some of her nails were long enough that she had to trim them. Her thumbs, unsurprisingly the most damaged to begin with, are still catching up. Her family noticed before she said a word. Her mum and sister have started wearing LA-BEK too, and now do their nails together. Her mum, in her seventies, has always had lovely nails but they've started to split with age, and wearing wraps has given her a bit of her own nail pride back. Ellie told us she hadn't realised how much she'd been hiding her hands, or how bad she genuinely felt about them, until she stopped. What we took from this We're not going to claim LA-BEK breaks habits. Every set of hands is different, and this is one customer's experience, not a promise. But Ellie's story is a good reminder of why we do this. Not the wraps, but what having something you're proud to look at can do. One more thing. Ellie's only feedback for us was a request: a video showing wraps on very short or bitten nails specifically, using the lighter shades, with an honest look at the early challenges. Noted, Ellie. Watch this space. Laura + Bek FAQs Will la-bek wraps work on very short or bitten nails? Yes, though you'll want to go in with realistic expectations. Less nail means less surface area for the wrap to grip, so lifting is more likely at first, especially on thumbs. Darker or opaque colours also do a better job of covering the nail bed underneath than sheer or transparent shades. โธป Can wraps help stop nail biting or picking? We can't promise that, and we'd never claim it as a cure. What some customers, like Ellie, find is that having something on their nails is a helpful physical reminder and makes picking harder to do without noticing. Everyone's experience is different. โธป Do I need a UV lamp for semi-cured gel wraps? Yes. Semi-cured wraps are real liquid gel, about 60% cured, and need a UV lamp to fully set. If you'd rather skip the lamp altogether, our UV-free gel wraps are peel and press with no curing required, though they wear for a shorter 7 to 10 days. โธป What's the difference between semi-cured and UV-free? Think of them as two handbags for different occasions, not an upgrade or downgrade. Semi-cured wraps need a lamp and wear 2 weeks or more, ideal for weak, short or damaged nails and long-wear lovers. UV-free wraps need no lamp and wear about 7 to 10 days, ideal for travel, quick manis and low-maintenance moments. โธป How do I remove them without damaging my nails further? Always use oil, never peel. Peeling wraps off can take layers of your natural nail with them, which is the opposite of what you want if you're trying to grow yours out. ย  Written by Laura & Bek Founders of LA-BEK, an Australian brand creatingย semi-cured gel nail wraps and UV-free gel nail wraps designed to make salon-quality nails simple, at home. ย

Spring nail art looks created with LA-BEK gel nail wraps and decals

No tutorial video this month, our brand reps have been busy creating instead, and honestly, their photos told us everything we needed. Three looks, three moods, all shoppable. Here's what's in each one and how we'd recreate it. Look 1: Sparkling Ribbons A glittery rosรฉ base with a soft white French tip built in, finished with one small bow on each nail. What's in it: Sparkling French Rosรฉ (Semi-Cured, Ballet Blush Edit) โ€” the base Mini Bows Nail Art Decals (Spring Details) โ€” the detail How we'd recreate it: Apply Sparkling French Rosรฉ as your full set and cure as normal. Once cured, pick up a Mini Bow decal with the metal end of your Precision Tweezers and press it just above the smile line on each nail (or just a couple, if you want it as an accent rather than all ten). No extra top coat needed, the shimmer's already built into the shade. Brand Rep Photo: Sparkling rosรฉ French mani with pink bow decals Look 2: Little Orchard A soft, everyday pink with one accent nail finished in a cluster of tiny fruits. What's in it: Pink Lemonade (Semi-Cured, Picnic Club Edit) โ€” the base Mini Fruits Nail Art Decals (Spring Details) โ€” the accent How we'd recreate it: Apply Pink Lemonade as your base set. Pick one nail as your accent (we love the ring finger) and finish it with two or three Mini Fruits decals clustered near the base, pressed down and sealed with your Precision Tweezers. Brand Rep Photo:ย Pink Lemonade nail with tiny fruit cluster decal Look 3: Lilac Lines A soft, chalky matte lilac with fine silver lines cutting across each nail at an angle. What's in it: Purple Rain (Semi-Cured, Azure Escape Edit) โ€” the base Silver Stripes Nail Art Decals โ€” the detail Matte Velvet Top Coat โ€” the finish How we'd recreate it: Apply Purple Rain as your full set and cure. Add one or two Silver Stripes decals on an angle across each nail, there's no wrong placement here, whatever feels balanced to your eye is right. Finish with Matte Velvet Top Coat and cure again for the soft matte look in the photos. Brand Rep Photo: Purple Rain nail with Silver Stripes decal ย  A note on mixing and matching None of these looks are locked to the exact products listed. Swap Purple Rain for any other Azure Escape shade, or trade the Silver Stripes for Gold Stripes if that's more your palette. The point isn't to copy exactly, it's to see how a base shade and one small detail can completely change a mani. If you want to build your own combination, ourย Build Your Own Nail Art Bundle lets you mix decals, gel liners and tape at a discount when you pick five. Laura + Bek ย  Spring Nail Art FAQs Do I need any nail art experience to recreate these looks? No. All three are decals or gel wraps pressed onto a base colour, not hand-painted art. If you can apply a wrap, you can do any of these. โธป What tool do I need to place the decals? Precision Tweezers. The metal end picks up and places decals exactly where you want them, no slipping, no shaky hands. โธป Do I need a top coat for all three looks? Only Look 3 needs one, the Matte Velvet Top Coat is what gives it that soft, chalky finish. Look 1's shimmer is already built into Sparkling French Rosรฉ, and Look 2 doesn't need one unless you want extra shine. โธป Can I mix Spring Details decals with other nail art in the range? Yes. Spring Details sits alongside our wider Nail Art collection, decals, gel liners and tape all mix and match freely. โธป Will these decals work with UV-Free wraps too? Yes. Decals press onto any finished mani, Semi-Cured or UV-Free. Ready to find your spring mani? Browse the full curated Spring Edit, all four moods, the UV-Free Edit and Spring Details in one place. Or explore the complete gel nail wrap collection across all seasons. New here? Our Semi-Cured Starter Kits bundle everything you need to start. Laura + Bek ย  The Spring Edit FAQs How long is the Spring Edit available? It's curated for the season and available while stock lasts. Once spring wraps up, some shades may earn a permanent spot in our everyday range, others will retire or return next spring. If a shade is calling your name, it's worth grabbing now. โธป Can I mix shades across different moods? Absolutely, and we'd recommend it. They're designed to sit together. A common combination is one Ballet Blush shade for polish and one Picnic Club or Azure Escape shade for a change of pace, rotated fortnightly. โธป Which mood is best for beginners? The easiest entry points are the UV-Free Spring Edit (no lamp, ten-minute application, peel and press) or Matcha Mornings (soft, forgiving neutrals that are kind to imperfect application). Either is a lovely place to start. โธป Do I need a UV lamp for these shades? For four of the six: yes. Ballet Blush, Matcha Mornings, Picnic Club and Azure Escape are all Semi-Cured wraps that need a UV LED lamp. The UV-Free Spring Edit needs no lamp at all, it's fully cured before it reaches you. โธป How long do they last? Semi-Cured wraps (Ballet Blush, Matcha Mornings, Picnic Club, Azure Escape): up to 2+ weeks. UV-Free wraps (UV-Free Spring Edit): 7 to 10 days. โธป What are the Spring Details stickers, and do they need a lamp too? They're nail art decals that press onto any finished mani, Semi-Cured or UV-Free. Seal them with a top coat for extra longevity if you're wearing Semi-Cured. โธป Will these shades come back next year? Some will earn a permanent spot in our everyday range. Others will return next spring, and a small handful may retire altogether if they don't find their audience. If a specific shade has captured you, this is your best window to grab it. โธป Are the new shades vegan and cruelty-free? Yes, every shade in every LA-BEK Edit is vegan and cruelty-free, across both Semi-Cured and UV-Free ranges. Using a hair dryer to warm gel nail wraps before applying them

We stumbled onto this one almost by accident. A quick warm-up with a hair dryer before application, and suddenly everything sat better: a stronger hold, cleaner edges. It's such a small step that it feels like it shouldn't matter. It does, especially with UV-Free. ย  Why warmth makes a difference Warmth does two different jobs depending on which wraps you're wearing. Forย UV-Free wraps, the adhesive is what bonds the wrap to your nail. A little heat makes that adhesive tackier and more workable, similar to warming sticky tape before you use it. That means a stronger hold and fewer lifted edges later on. Forย Semi-Cured wraps, it's the gel itself that benefits. Heat makes the strip more pliable, so it moulds to your nail shape more easily and smooths down cleanly. The UV lamp is still what actually cures it, warmth just makes the application step easier before you get there. The finishing move We've started finishing every mani the same way now: once everything's applied, a quick, gentle warm-up over the nails, then a firm press along the edges with the Precision Tweezers. It seals everything down while the wrap (or the adhesive underneath it) is still warm and workable. It's become one of those small habits that makes a real difference to how long a set lasts. = Mid-wear fix: hair getting stuck This is the one most people don't expect. You're not applying anything, you're a week or so into wearing your set, and you notice a strip has started catching in your hair. That's a lifted edge, usually right at the tip or side. Don't pick at it or peel it off. Warm it gently with the hair dryer, then press the edge back down with the tweezers. It reseals in seconds and buys the rest of your set more wear time. We've got a full breakdown of why this happens in the first place in Why Do Semi-Cured Gel Nails Catch in Your Hair, and How to Fix It, worth a read if it keeps happening. Reviving strips that have gone hard This one's Semi-Cured specific. If you've opened a pack and left it sitting near a sunny window for a while, you might notice the strips have started to harden. That's the gel reacting to natural UV light, the same thing that eventually happens under your lamp, just slower and unplanned. A gentle warm from the hair dryer softens them back up enough to apply properly. It won't undo strips that have fully cured hard, but it will rescue ones that have only just started to go. How to do it without burning anything A few rules we stick to: Use a warm setting, not the hottest one. You want warmth, not heat. Hold the dryer roughly 15 to 20cm away from your nails. Keep it moving rather than holding it in one spot, so the heat doesn't concentrate anywhere. A few seconds is usually enough. If it feels too warm on your skin, it's too close or too long. That's it. No special tools, no timer, just your everyday hair dryer doing a second job. Small habit, real difference. Next time you're applying (or rescuing) a set, give it a go. Laura + Bek Hair Dryer Hack FAQs Does heating gel nail wraps with a hair dryer actually work? Yes. Warming wraps briefly before application is a widely used trick. For UV-Free it makes the adhesive tackier for a stronger hold, for Semi-Cured it makes the gel more pliable so it moulds and smooths more easily. โธป Do I still need to cure Semi-Cured wraps under a UV lamp if I heat them with a hair dryer? Yes, always. Heat only helps with application, it doesn't cure the gel. Semi-Cured wraps still need 60 seconds under your UV LED Lamp to reach full strength. โธป What setting should I use on my hair dryer? A warm setting, not the hottest one, held around 15 to 20cm away and kept moving. A few seconds is enough. If it feels hot on your skin, it's too close or too long. โธป My strip is catching in my hair a few days into wearing it. What do I do? Don't pick at it or pull it off. Gently warm the lifted edge and press it back down with the Precision Tweezers. It reseals quickly and buys the rest of your set more wear time. โธป My Semi-Cured strips went hard after I left them near a window. Can I still use them? If they've only just started to harden, a gentle warm from the hair dryer will usually soften them enough to apply. Strips that have fully cured hard won't come back. โธป Does this trick work for both Semi-Cured and UV-Free wraps? Both benefit from a quick warm-up before applying, but the reason differs. UV-Free gets a stronger adhesive bond, Semi-Cured gets easier, smoother application. The near-window hardening issue is Semi-Cured only.
